Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kutaisi
Arrival at Kutaisi airport. Transfer to hotel and free time to stroll through the city, Georgia's second largest and capital of ancient Colchis, famous for the legend of Jason and the Argonauts. Welcome dinner with Imereti wine tasting. Accommodation in Kutaisi.
Day 2: Kutaisi - UNESCO Monuments
Breakfast and visit to Kutaisi's agricultural market, one of the most authentic in the country. Visit Bagrati Cathedral (11th c.), symbol of unified Georgia. Continue to Gelati Monastery, a World Heritage Site founded by King David the Builder in the 12th century, considered the most important medieval academy in the Caucasus. Visit Motsameta Monastery (11th c.), dedicated to the martyrs David and Constantine, spectacularly located above the Tskaltsitela River. Free lunch. Afternoon transfer to Tbilisi. Dinner and accommodation in Tbilisi.
Day 3: Tbilisi - Old Town
Breakfast and complete tour of Tbilisi: medieval Metekhi Church (13th c.) overlooking the Kura River, walk through the old town with its characteristic wooden balconies, Abanotubani district with its famous sulfur baths, synagogue, Sioni Cathedral (13th c.), and Anchiskhati Basilica (6th c.). Cable car ride to Narikala Fortress (4th c.) for panoramic views. Walk across the Bridge of Peace and along Rustaveli Avenue. Free lunch. Afternoon excursion to Mtskheta, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Georgia and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit Jvari Church (6th c.) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Dinner at traditional restaurant with folk show. Accommodation in Tbilisi.
Day 4: Tbilisi - Kakheti - Wine Route
Breakfast and departure for Kakheti, Georgia's most important wine region. We'll cross Gombori Pass with beautiful views of vineyards and mountains. Visit Alaverdi Cathedral (11th c.), one of the tallest in the country and a jewel of medieval Georgian architecture. Continue to Gremi (16th c.), a former Silk Road trading city and royal residence. Visit a traditional winery to learn about the ancestral kvevri winemaking method, followed by tasting of several wines and chacha (Georgian brandy). Lunch at a local family home with typical Kakhetian dishes. Afternoon stroll through Sighnaghi, the charming walled city known as the City of Love, with views of the Alazani Valley and Caucasus Mountains. Visit Bodbe Monastery, where the remains of Saint Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia, rest. Return to Tbilisi. Accommodation.
Day 5: Tbilisi - Kazbegi - Snow Route
Early breakfast and departure for the Greater Caucasus mountains via the legendary Georgian Military Highway. Stop at Ananuri Fortress (17th c.), an impressive defensive complex by Zhinvali Reservoir. Continue ascending through high mountain landscapes, passing Gudauri ski resort (2,196m). Stop at the Cross Pass viewpoint (2,379m) with its Soviet-style Friendship Monument decorated with mosaics. Arrival in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), at the foot of majestic Mount Kazbek (5,047m). 4x4 ascent to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church (14th c.), one of Georgia's most photographed sites. Lunch at local restaurant. Free time to enjoy the scenery. Dinner and accommodation in Kazbegi.
Day 6: Kazbegi - Tbilisi
Breakfast with mountain views. Free morning to walk around Stepantsminda or take an optional hike (weather permitting). Option to return to Gergeti for those wishing to see sunrise or capture different light on Kazbek. Free lunch. Afternoon return to Tbilisi via the Georgian Military Highway, with photo stops for the spectacular landscapes. Arrival in Tbilisi and free time. Farewell dinner at traditional restaurant. Accommodation in Tbilisi.
Day 7: Tbilisi - Airport
Breakfast. Free time according to flight schedule for last-minute shopping or strolling. Transfer to Tbilisi or Kutaisi airport. End of services.
