Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from Madrid to Georgia?

You have several options from Madrid to Tbilisi: (1) Direct flight (4.5-5h) with Georgian Airways is most comfortable and fastest. (2) Connecting flights through Istanbul (Turkish), Frankfurt (Lufthansa), or Rome (Alitalia) are cheaper but take 6-8h. Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli Airport (TSE) is 17km from downtown, easily accessible in 30 min by taxi (8-10€) or Uber (5-6€). The terminal is modern and recently renovated with restaurants, shops, free WiFi. In low season, budget connecting flights can be very cheap (80-120€ round-trip). Direct vs connecting depends on your budget and time. We recommend direct flights if your budget allows for comfort.

Should I rent a car?

Yes, but the best option is to rent a car WITH a driver and ideally with a guide/driver. Why? Main roads are excellent (Military Road to Kazbegi spectacular, E60 to Batumi modern), but Tbilisi traffic is chaotic with impatient drivers. If you drive yourself you must deal with this, navigate routes, read Georgian signs, and spend time planning. A professional driver eliminates stress, knows optimal routes and hidden gems. A guide/driver enriches your experience exponentially: shares local stories, accesses authentic places, adjusts itineraries to your interests. Yes, the price is slightly higher (approx. 60-80€/day for driver, 90-120€/day with specialized guide vs 25-45€ car only), but the enjoyment level and safety absolutely justify the difference. Gas is cheap (0.80-1€/liter), mountain roads beautiful and manageable. We offer driver/guide services with excellent value. Check our options for unforgettable experiences.

Are there ride-sharing apps in Tbilisi?

Yes, Bolt works perfectly in Tbilisi (Uber does not operate in Georgia). Bolt is the main and reliable ride-sharing app. Typical prices: 2-4€ within Tbilisi, 5-8€ to airport. Much safer and cheaper than street taxis. For Tbilisi transport, the public system is extensive: marshrutkas (minibuses with fixed routes, 0.30€), metro (one line, heavily used, 0.20€), and trolleybuses. In small villages outside Tbilisi there's no Bolt, so car rental or our private transport services are better options. In Tbilisi it's best to combine: walk in center, Bolt for medium distances, metro for long distances.

Are Georgian roads safe?

Yes, Georgian main roads are in good condition and safe. The Military Road to Kazbegi (112km route) is modern, well-maintained, with spectacular scenery. The E60 to Batumi is a quality highway similar to Europe. Secondary mountain roads are winding but marked and safe if you drive carefully. Tbilisi traffic can be chaotic (many drivers drive aggressively, ignore signals), but manageable with patience. Our professional guides drive safe vehicles (guaranteed maintenance), know all routes, and drive with experience. Avoid driving at night in mountains if you're not accustomed. Traffic police are professional. In summary: roads are safe, it's the local driving style that requires adaptation.
